Try this...

I just did a quick test in my mailfile, using the FT search there.
I have some emails with the word "summary" in the subject line. I also have some with the name "O'Mary" in the subject line.

They were all found using this search:
[subject] = "*mary"

Try that way to write the search criteria instead. My client is Notes 9, server is 8.5.2.
